Lake Dravograd

NATURA 2000 area

Lake Dravograd, which was formed at the crossroads of the Strojna Mountains, Pohorje and Košenjak after the construction of the Dravograd hydroelectric power station built in 1943, has been transformed into a water area with colorful flora and fauna.

The area is important for many birds, which appear here either as migratory birds or as breeding birds. Ornithologists have so far recorded over 170 bird species in the wider area of Lake Dravograd. Many other endangered animal and plant species are also found at Lake Dravograd - e.g. the beaver, the toad, the green frog,...
