30.03.2018 – 41st COORDINATION COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE EUROPEAN GEOPARK NETWORK SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
In the frame of the EUfutuR project, implemented during the Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A Slovenia-Austria, the 41. coordination committee of the European Geopark Network took place in the crossborder Karavanke/Karawanken UNESCO Global Geopark, in Pliberk/Bleiburg.
European Geopark Network (EGN) was established in the year 2000. Today it includes 70 geoparks from 23 european countries, and all are designated as »UNESCO Global Geoparks«. Since the year 2013, a part of the network is also Geopark Karavanke/Karawanken – crossborder Geopark between Slovenia and Austria.
41st coordination committee meeting of the EGN took place in the Geopark Karavanke/Karawanken, between 19 and 24 of March 2018. The meeting was attended by more than 120 delgates from 23 european countries. Beside Advisory and Coordination Committee Meeting, a whole day fieldtrip was organised, where participants visited Geopark Karavanke/Karawanken attractions – the Geopark Karavanke/Karawanken Infocenter World of Geology in Bad Eisenkappel/Železna Kapla, Obir dripstone caves, and Tourist mine and museum Podzemlje Pece in Mežica. For interested public, an »Open session« was implemented, where the EGN and all 4 crossborder geoparks were presented. In the frame of pressconference, first certificates to »Karavanke UNESCO Global Geopark education centres« were awareded, to Mežica, Črna na Koroškem and Lavamünd/Labot.
